Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Supports Rapper “21 Savage” After He’s Arrested by ICE

Newly-elected Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez received a tremendous backlash, after she tweeted support for criminal illegal immigrant rapper “21 Savage.”

AOL.com reported that a man with the same name as Grammy-nominated rapper 21 Savage, who was taken into custody in Atlanta on immigration charges over the weekend, was born in London, according to a copy of a British birth certificate obtained by Reuters.

21 Savage, whose name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested on Sunday in Atlanta, the southern U.S. city in which he has based his music career.

He has spoken publicly about his experiences growing up in Atlanta and grappling with a culture of gun violence and drug dealing. He speaks with an American accent.

Hours after announcing that she’ll be bringing Ana Maria Archila, the woman who famously confronted then-Sen. Jeff Flake in an elevator during the Brett Kavanaugh hearings last fall, to Tuesday’s State of the Union, the freshman congresswoman tweeted out lyrics in a gesture of support for the British-born performer.

The rapper’s arrest for overstaying his visa has outraged his fans — including Cardi B, who clashed with conservative commentator Tomi Lahren over the ordeal — and prompted calls to “eliminate” ICE.

Ocasio-Cortez, a vocal critic of ICE, cited 21 Savage’s own lyrics, which reference being “stuck at the border” and needing a lawyer.
